How is my order kept cold in transit?

Frozen meat shipping box

On the cart (shopping basket) page of the checkout, you can opt to upgrade your shipping box to a frozen meat polystyrene box, lined with wool insulated sheets, and packed with ice. We require that the customer order this box for courier shipping of quick frozen (unaged, low histamine) meat and all frozen meat products. We cannot courier unaged quick frozen meat unless it is packed in a polystyrene box and we do not give refunds or replace meat which thaws in transit unless it is packed in a polystyrene box.

The alternative (standard) shipping box is a biodegradable corrugated cardboard box lined with a plastic barrier then lined with a wool insulated sheets and packed with ice. This is suitable for the shipment of chilled meat but is not  suitable for the shipment of quick frozen, unaged meat. 

Ice 

We will ship your order with suitable ice for the products purchased. If you are buying chilled items your products will be packed with ice for chilled meat. If you are buying frozen meat your meat will be packed with special ice designed for the shipment of frozen meat. The ice will melt during transit - this is normal and it is how the ice is meant to work -this is how the inner temperature of the box is kept cold.  On unpacking the box the ice packs will be wet and the outer plastic wrapper can occasionally split letting the ice into the box- this is normal & not a problem because the liquid in the ice is designed for shipping food and is perfectly food safe. When you unpack your parcel you can snip the ice packs and pour the thawed ice into your kitchen drain and recycle the plastic wrapper.
